I'm a huge fan of wintertime, and the holidays that accompany it. 'The Return of the Light: Twelve Tales from Around the World for the Winter Solstice' is easily one of my favorite books this season. I was gifted this book by my grandmother last year, and had no idea what a worthwhile gift it would be until I started to read!
From South America to Scotland, each story in this collection is incredibly diverse both culturally and temporally. Every time I pick up this book it feels like jumping into an exotic world with captivating plots, characters and atmosphere. They range from tales featuring farmers reaping their final harvest within intricate dreamscapes to hearty family reunions around roaring hearths – guaranteed to leave your heart warm regardless of whatever chill you may feel outside in reality!
What has made me fall head-over-heels for ‘The Return of the Light’ even more than its entrancing content has been seeing how delighted all my friends have been when reading these stories to their children during bedtime (some even shared they've learned something new too!) Being able to share something so joyous amidst such trying times is truly priceless - thank you again Grandma Louie (who always knows best)!
