I recently saw my friend's dad flipping through this book, "The True Measure of a Man: How Perception of Success, Achievement & Recognition Fail Men in Difficult Times" Link, and I got really intrigued!
So, I decided to read it for myself – and boy was I not disappointed. This thought-provoking literary piece deals with the question at hand with grace and poise. It helped me gain an insight into how success can be so relative from male to female; from child to adult; from person to person...it truly is eye opening when you break down social stigma surrounding success - especially during difficult times.
In fact, something funny happened while reading this book...my cousin (who's actually pretty cocky) noticed that I had the copy on my nightstand and asked what it was about. Once he heard that its focus was on ‘measuring success’ he quickly dismissed its relevance by saying “well if we agreed upon one definition wouldn't everyone just go around trying to fit those criteria rather than create their own unique paths?” LOLz! Anyway…
Climbing out of debt or poverty or addiction doesn't necessarily equate successful life as some may believe — which brings me onto why this piece works so well - 'The True Measure of a Man' helps men understand that they are more than just monetary figures..and instead looks at psychological determinants such as inner peace and emotional maturity which are pivotal partsof true manhood. All in all, whether you're struggling with social pressures or self-esteem issues or other personal difficulties - give this book a try for complete understanding
