I got my dad the 'Dad Keychain Dad Gifts From Son Daughter Christmas Gift Keyring Father's Day Gift For Dad Papa Daddy (If dad can't fix it, no one can)' from Amazon, thinking I would make his special day extra meaningful with this thoughtful gift. Boy, was I wrong!
My dad was not interested at all in the keychain and didn't even thank me for it when he received it from me on Father's Day. It really broke my heart because our relationship has been strained lately and I wanted to do something special for him to show how much I care about him despite our differences. When he opened the package and realized that all he'd gotten was a keychain, his demeanor changed instantly - coming from a father whose philosophy is usually "If you can't fix it yourself then don't get it" made this cold reception so hurtful to me — clearly this wasn’t what he had in mind or else why did they have to engrave such an inscription tag?! A nice picture of us together or perhaps a book by his favorite author would have been better choices!
Obviously any doubt of buying that item as a gift should be avoided next time since there are many other things you could give your dear dads 🤷🏻♂️
