As a concerned parent, I was hesitant to purchase the book "Crazy Stuff Dictators Do: Insane But True Stories You Won't Believe Actually Happened" for my children.
I wasn't sure if it would be too graphic or too much for their young minds.
After reading through it with them, though, we found ourselves enthralled and amazed by the incredible stories that have had such an impact on our world!
We started off slowly with some of the more relatable tales - like how Kim Jong-il sent Michael Jordon to North Korea after luring him in with over-the-top promises of accommodations and vehicles. And as we slowly worked our way up to stories of violence and oppressive regimes, my children were able to understand just how powerful dictatorships can be when they oppress their people! We also talked a lot about how many tyrants do evil things but still manage to maintain power because so few citizens are aware of the consequences or know what's going on in their own countries.
Overall, this book has been a crash course in understanding why some governments take extreme measures while others bring equal opportunity or try hard not to victimize their populations. My children felt empowered learning that even powerful tyrannical rulers can be overthrown by brave individuals speaking truth against oppression - something you'll discover within these pages! Every story emphasizes freedom from tyranny is possible no matter where you're from – making this book both educational and inspiring at once.
Highly recommended for any family looking for an empowering read about real history behind sadly unrecognized holdouts of tyranny on planet earth!
